Math Contest Held

May 07, 2009

On April 30, 2009, all the students in grades 3-8 at Seneca Grade School/Nemaha Valley Junior High competed in a school math contest. The contest was a great success and a lot of fun. The contest consisted of three categories: number sense, geometry, and problem solving. The number sense and geometry tests were individual tests. The students were grouped by grade level for the problem solving part of the contest.

Many students were recognized at the awards ceremony for their hard work. The students who got one of the top three places in the number sense and geometry category were awarded with medals. Subway packs were the awards for the fourth through sixth place finishers compliments of Subway. All of the first place winning groups in the problem-solving category were awarded with a Subway pack or a snack. All students were given a Dr. Pepper for participating compliments of Seneca Wholesale.

Junior high math teacher Betty Peterson organized the event, and several parents volunteered to help grade the tests. This is the tenth year for this school contest.
